We Chose Art
- Amy Smith -
Friday July 26, 7:00 pm
We Choose Art and The Montalban are proud to present a solo show by AMY SMITH curated by Baha H. Danesh, Opening July 26th at 7:00 pm.
Amy Smith is a self-educated, contemporary artist born in New Jersey who moved to Los Angeles in 2005. Inspired by the Street Art movement surrounding Los Angeles Amy found her voice in activism and art! She incorporates empowering phrases and words in her collages with the intention of creating a conversation to encourage action in a powerful and fun way.
With In her canvas portraits canvas, Amy creates hand cut stencils and utilizes recycled fashion magazine pieces. These magazines represent her love of fashion but contempt for consumerism. By ripping these pieces up and creating new powerful work, she aims to offer a decision on choosing your own path of empowerment and leaving what society demands aside.
Amy's work has been featured on networks such as Netflix, HBO, and Hulu. She exhibited at The Other Art Fair Santa Monica, CA, Startup Art Fair in Venice, CA, Gabba Gallery, The Whole 9 Gallery, WallspaceLA, Jco's Art Haus, and the prestigious Julien's Auction for Contemporary and Street art along side Banksy, Mr. Brainwash, Shepard Fairey, and Andy Warhol.
Her outdoor street art murals can be found at the Neutra Museum of Silverlake, San Diego, and Hollywood, Ca.
