2018 was the deadliest and most destructive wildfire season in California’s history. Whole towns were wiped out by fast-moving infernos – forcing families to leave behind their homes and lives.

Thousands of victims were left with nothing. In the aftermath, the California Fire Foundation provided support to those who suffered substantial loss and distributed $2.6 million dollars directly into the hands of over 10,000 families.

Formed in 1987 by California Professional Firefighters, the California Fire Foundation supports fallen firefighter survivors, victim assistance projects and community initiatives.

The Montalban Theatre will be donating a portion of ticket sales as well as a portion of proceeds sold of Exitus Wines to the California Fire Foundation (CFA).  In the month of September, also Fire Fighter Appreciation Month, Exitus Wines donated a portion of proceeds of its wine sold state-wide to the California Fire Foundation.

About The Film

Aerial firefighter Pete (Richard Dreyfuss) risks himself and his vintage World War II airplane in a constant and death-defying quest to fight forest wildfires, much to the dismay of his girlfriend, Dorinda (Holly Hunter).

His love for Dorinda and the advice of fellow pilot Al (John Goodman) convince Pete to give up his perilous career, but he flies one last mission.

Pete heroically saves Al's plane from certain destruction, but with supernatural consequences. Original Release date: December 22, 1989. Director: Steven Spielberg

Rooftop Movies

The Montalbán’s rooftop oasis – outfitted with a bar, concession stand and full kitchen – provides an open-air movie theater complete with a large projection screen, state-of-the-art projector, noise cancelling headphones, fresh-popped popcorn and even blankets for a chilly night.

This year – 2019 – the historic venue celebrates 10 years of rooftop entertainment and enters its fifth year of its ongoing outdoor movie series, now entitled Rooftop Movies at The Montalbán.

The Montalbán curates films from all eras including Hollywood classics, cult favorites, select current releases, premieres and special presentations with cast and crew when possible.

Doors open at 6:00pm, which allows attendees to DRINK beer, wine, mix drinks and the ever-popular hand-crafted Ramos Sangria.

DINE thanx to Umami Burger who continues as the venue’s rooftop culinary partner (serving Impossible Burgers much to the delight of many vegetarians).

PLAY a game of giant Jenga or ham-it-up in the selfie-friendly Simple Booth area; or CHILL in a relaxing beach chair or loveseat while listening to a hand-selected musical soundtrack in noise-cancelling headphones until the movie begins.
